Sage Spa History
Spring 2004, I had a private massage practice here in Park Slope for over twenty years. so when the opportunity presented itself to grab the second floor at the same address as our home, my husband, David, and I jumped on it. We started making plans, and after a short vacation, we returned to a life of pain, sawdust, paint and grime. The transformation was incredibly grueling- so much so, that our friends would often find us each day at a long extended lunch complete with exotic drinks as a way to give our latest wounds a chance to heal. Sage opened August 2004. From the start folks loved the space; we heard time and time again how peaceful they felt as soon as they walked through the door. Everyone said that they couldn't believe that something this peaceful was located on 5th Avenue in Park Slope. To tell you the truth, we were amazed as well- soundproof windows were huge! Anyway, Sage was born that summer, and within a few months we were offering popular mommy/baby yoga classes and massages. It was great to be home. One day, a few months later, Sage's name appeared in an online spa review where we were measured against a prestigious Manhattan spa. Forget that we made no claim to be a spa just a nice massage office and yoga center. This didn't seem fair. The reviewer loved their Manhattan spa expereince but, surprisingly enough, they loved us too. We turned to each other, "If we are going to be compared with a spa, why not turn Sage into a SPA. After more saws, paint, and a fond goodbye to yoga classes.... Sage Spa was born. Today, some years later, we are proud of our loyal following here in Park Slope, throughout the tri-state area, and even around the globe. It's true that the idea for Sage was ours, but much of our explosive growth rests squarely on the shoulders of our warm, passionate, extremely dedicated therapists and spa managers. Looking back, it's funny how one tiny idea to create a private massage office turned into a large loving family. We couldn't be more proud. It's really true when we say: We are proud and passionate about what we do, and we think you'll notice the difference. -Susan
